This year RCU are extremely proud to be sponsoring the AoC Beacon Awards, Support for Students category. Working closely with colleges across the country on a daily basis, we are delighted to be able to support and celebrate the wonderful work being done across the sector. We feel the Support for Students Award provides an opportunity to showcase the exceptional programmes colleges have in put in place to support students of all abilities and from all backgrounds, within a quickly changing and often difficult environment to ensure that they have a fair chance to progress and fulfill their potential.
The AoC Beacon Awards were established over 20 years ago to recognise and celebrate best practice across the college sector in the UK. In a recent statement published by TES, Apprenticeships and Skills Minister, Anne Milton reaffirmed that the TES FE Awards and AoC Beacon Awards are a fantastic way to highlight the exceptional and innovative work going on in the sector.
We send our congratulations to all applicants for their commitment in this area, especially the three finalists announced at the Association of Colleges Annual Conference gala dinner in November. Getting this far from such an extensive list of strong applications is a great achievement in itself and the three colleges to be celebrated this year are:
- Barking and Dagenham College
- Activate Learning
- National Star College
Over the next few weeks, we will be visiting each of the three finalists along with a team of experienced AoC Beacon Award assessors to explore in more depth the fantastic work being done by these institutions and gather further evidence on what makes their unique programmes have impact, appear innovative and makes them sustainable.
The winning college will then be announced on Friday 22nd March in the combined TES FE Awards and AoC Beacon Awards ceremony, being held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London. We can’t wait to come along and join in the celebrations.
