Modelling Tools

Curriculum Analysis Tool

This toolkit was designed to help a college’s curriculum managers to access information generated by RCU as an aid to curriculum planning. The college wanted curriculum managers to base their planning on firm evidence including previous recruitment.

Market Share

Every provider needs to gauge the likely impact of changes in the local cohort size e.g. for 16-18 year old learners and changes in the provider’s market share. This tool is a simple aid to recognising the impact of changes in either or both variables – cohort size and market share – over a five year period.

Sample size and confidence interval calculator

Knowing how many individuals to survey, whether it’s learners, staff or employers, is vital when it comes to gathering robust, valid data. This tool shows the minimum sample size necessary to achieve a particular quality threshold known as a “confidence interval”. This can be thought of as the margin for error in your results. Take a population of 1,000 as an example. The tool will show that for a confidence interval of +/- 2% we need to survey 707 people. If you were happy to accept a confidence interval of +/- 5%, you would only require 278.

Toolkits developed by RCU, on behalf of LSIS, to help providers set their fees in order to maximise income from employers and from individuals.

The website on which the toolkits are situated contains 2 applications which you should download to your desktop in order to be able to make full use of the toolkits.

The applications are very quick to download.
